Sticky: Re: Last Live Gig You Went To (so far!)

Should have been Big Big Train in Newport 1st November 2019, but Mrs PW got ill and I couldn't go :(

That would have been my last gig I think, with my rapidly declining health.
  3. Re: The mostly ghastly and irritating bands/singers you remember or were jealous of

The man sings off key! Awful awful awful. And some of those songs are so sickening :(

I wouldn't pay tuppence to see him perform at the bottom of our garden let alone 150 quid.
  4. Re: The mostly ghastly and irritating bands/singers you remember or were jealous of

Barry Manilow, oh my god what a horror. What women see in him I'll never know.

    Re: Bonfire night

I think we've done Bonfire Night in our salad days on another thread too.

Nonetheless, and at risk of repeating myself, here's my take on it.

When I was a kid Bonfire night was an occasion. A...

Re: Does anyone still do the “ pools”?

Well well I remember doing the pools you had to get 8 score draws or something to win the jackpot. Something like 3 points for a score draw, 2 for a goalless draw, 1 for home win and 1.5 for aways?...

    Re: Glue

Yeah I remember that almond smelling glue and like the others here I can't remember what it was called either. It was white and came in a tub with a small plastic applicator, that bent as you scooped...

    Re: RIP Ric Ocasek (1949-2019)

I was a Cars fan and really liked Ric's solo work, which was brilliant melodic rock, with a superb vocal delivery. They were at their peak in the late seventies through the eighties, yet always (for...

    Eddie Money 1949 - 2019 RIP

It is with much sadness that I post the death of the AOR/Melodic rock master.

Probably not very well known over here (in UK) Eddie was the king of the catchy, hook -ridden rock song.

    If you...
  13. Re: The mostly ghastly and irritating bands/singers you remember or were jealous of

Absolutely, Rock, metal and prog was amazing in the 70's (and still is). Yep that's the tripe I was on about, cruddy acts like those you list and many more.

Female singers-wise none of those you...
  14. 'Duties' at later Secondary School (6th form)

Following on from the 'Later years at Secondary school' thread, made me remember duties that were expected from the 6th form.

I discovered that, as senior pupils, we were supposed to police the...

Re: Older years at Secondary School

Ah yes the 6th form. Despite my total disaster at Grammar school, my father wheedled me in to the local comp when we moved area. I was still reeling after spending 5 years on my own, and with all...
  16. The mostly ghastly and irritating bands/singers you remember or were jealous of

Lets be nice and negative for a change. Back in the 70's I used to moan and complain that us boys had no-one to ogle and lust after. You girls had a selection of meaningless characters including...

Re: Watching Football scores on Teletext

And me. Every Saturday afternoon, TV would be on teletext or oracle from 3 onwards. Yes games started at 3pm in those days, not like the TV slanted games nowadays.

I used to ring up the club and...

Re: Breaking up for the summer holidays

Yes I was born in 1958 also. July actually. I left that horrible dump before my 16th birthday, so I was 15. Have to say, our experiences were rather similar.

In addition I spent 30 years in...

Re: Breaking up for the summer holidays

I also left school before the GCE's were over as I was too stupid to do them all. As I detailed in another thread, walking out of that damn grammar school was like getting released from jail. I'd...

Re: Keeping in touch with old school friends

I can safely say that I haven't and wouldn't and didn't keep in touch with anyone after my awful schooldays. In fact no-one even recognises me, let alone remembers me. I even bought a house from a...

Re: 25 Years since leaving school

And you know what ? Nobody even noticed I was gone. Indeed there is a photograph of boys in Didcot House from 1973, which was at one time, hanging around on the 'net. Can't find it now, but anyway,...

    Re: Drama lessons

Same here. I made myself as small and inconsequential as possible, and if necessary pretended to be ill if I was in any drama production, which were rare at the schools I attended.
