    Re: Pebble Mill at One

I remember my Mum used to like watching it.

Victoria Wood seemed to have it mind when coming up with the Margery & Joan sketches for As Seen On TV.

    Re: Electric Light Orchestra

I remember the edition of Rock Family Trees about the Birmingham Beat, tracing the links between The Moody Blues, The Move & ELO.

    Re: Crown Court

I did see an opening clip of an episode on you Tube recently, which started with a shot of Stockport Town Hall, I'm not sure if it was supposed to be standing in for the court building though.

    Re: Stars in their Eyes

As mentioned above they tried a revival a few years ago with Harry Hill, who unfortunately wasn't the right sort of host for it.

Re: The Days of Pearly Spencer

The original wasn't a hit partially because the BBC refused to play it due to David McWilliams having connections to Radio Caroline.

    Re: Words and Pictures

I can remember a lot of the editions were built around the theme of a certain letter & the story featured.

Re: The Days of Pearly Spencer

I remember wondering why it sounded like it was sung down a phone line.

Queen created a similar effect for one of their album tracks by using a steel dust bin as an echo chamber, with a speaker in...
  13. Re: Going back to school after the Christmas holidays

I remember there were a few flu outbreaks in the late 1980s - early 90s around Christmas.

Coming back to school & even college after the holidays after Christmas holidays was very hard, often even...
  14. Re: Films given a different rating by the local town council than by the BBFC

The 12 rating was brought in to fill the gap between PG & 15, just like in the USA PG13 was introduced after some 1980s films pushed the PG rating to the limit.
  15. Re: Films given a different rating by the local town council than by the BBFC

I've heard of the opposite happening in the USA, with some films being trimmed down to drop them down a rating. Some cinemas there won't show films with the highest rating.
  16. Re: Films given a different rating by the local town council than by the BBFC

I was surprised that Star Wars was given a U rating with a few gory deaths & burnt skeletons.

    Re: Gene hackman

He's great in The French Connection & won an Oscar for playing Popeye Doyle in it.

In the Christopher Reeve Superman films he was very good as Lex Luthor.

    Re: RIP Neil Innes (1944-2019)

Very sad news, I've not had much chance to sample his work but the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Bang & Rutland Weekend Television seem very good.
  19. Re: Identify kids TV program for my niece?

I was thinking it was this but it seemed a little early.
  20. Re: Father Christmas in his sleigh visiting local streets on Christmas Eve

This still happens in a few areas, certainly the local Rotary club near to my parents does the rounds in the run up to Christmas day.

Re: Christmas When You Were Growing Up

I still enjoy Christmas, over the years I've adjusted my attitudes towards it to get the best of it.

These days it's mostly about the family getting together & seeing my younger relatives enjoy it.

My Brother & his girlfriend didn't send any Christmas cards this year & used the money to donate food to their local homeless shelter.

    Re: RIP Kenny Lynch

    Very sad news.

He seemed to be one of those personalities who mostly appeared on ITV shows, so my chances to seeing him were limited because my family was very much a BBC one.

  24. Re: Films given a different rating by the local town council than by the BBFC

I think there used to be a loophole for showing films either banned or X rated in a private members club.

Some "art house" cinemas would claim to be a film society & charge a membership fee for...
