    Re: Mr bean

I remember my Gran didn't like Mr Bean because she thought it was making fun of the mentally challenged.

Re: Get some in 1975 comedy

I've not seen it but the last season was apparently "tacked on" when the previous series had wrapped up most of the plot, & tellingly Jakey Smith was played by Karl Howman.

    I did wonder why they...

Re: The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13

The scenes when Adrian accidentality glues a model Spitfire to his nose had my Dad laughing his head off.

It was also scary when he fell over at the end of the credits.

    Re: Mr bean

One of the boys at the swimming pool looks like one of cousins did at the time, which makes it even more funny.

    Re: Mr bean

I got the DVD box set for Christmas as both me & my wife like Mr Bean.

There are a large selection of subtitles in different languages, which shows how easy it was to export.

    I had the diary...

    Re: Rip albert finney

Very sad news, I was surprised at how wide his range of characters was over the years.

    Re: Moments in History.

Thanks, I heard they arranged for someone to clear out their safehouse but it wasn't done before the police arrived.

QI had quite a good feature about how it was anything but a perfect crime.

Sticky: Re: A trip down memory lane

There are a few scrap men I see around near me. I can remember they used to offer to pick up TVs when it was the digital switchover.

Sticky: Re: A trip down memory lane

I delivered a local paper for 2 years & was normally paid in cash which the distributor would hand over with the papers. I also remember getting more for leaflets.

One of my friends did the...

    Re: RIP Windsor Davies

Sad news. I'm too young to remember It Ain't Half Hot but his voice was well suited for Zero in Terrahawks.
  17. Re: Lyrics you always mis-heard but didn't know it

I remember Marc LaMarr suggested Paul McCartney was singing about an Irish garage called Mulligan's Tyres.

    Re: Vesta

Paella is another in the Vesta range.

I wonder who still buys Vesta meals & Frey Bentos pies in a tin, considering how many people have fridges & freezers for ready meals.
  19. Re: The best CBBC and CITV programmes from the 1980s

I remember BBC1 using a set of literally basic (!) computer animated characters (generated by a BBC Micro) to introduce programmes for a couple of years before the Broom Cupboard.

Burt Bacharach has written so many great songs over the years, I remember a very good documentary a few years ago about him on BBC4.

    Re: Britain in the 60s

Yes things from before I was born seem a lot older. I remember in the 1980s a lot of things from the 1960s seemed from another world, but the equivalent things from the late 1990s don't seem so old.
