    Re: Thomas Cook - 1841-2019

I suppose this thread is more suited to Holidays rather than Gone But Not Forgotten. I have to say that I do feel so sorry for all their customers who have their work cut out trying to get back home...

    Re: School visitors

Kinnock became leader on Sunday 2nd October 1983, so I would say that he was leader by then.

    Re: School Trips

I know it is, but the fact that two different cities have areas called Clifton which in turn have bridges can be rather confusing to one or two people such as myself.

    Re: School visitors

I didn't like Rugby either (the sport, although the town in Warwickshire is a nice place) - it had nothing to do with having masculinity but I wasn't really interested in the sport. Anyway, I am...
  5. Re: Did Frank Bough do kids TV in the late 70s?

Frank Bough mostly did Grandstand on Saturday afternoons in the late 1970s, and so therefore I doubt that he would have been available to due Saturday morning children's television as well unless it...

I am almost certain that I dropped one in a puddle one rainy day and it almost disintegrated.

    Re: School Trips

Yes, Leeds Castle is in Kent, and nowhere near Leeds - in the same way that Clifton Suspension Bridge is not Clifton Bridge (as confused by my younger self) and is nowhere near Clifton in Nottingham,...

Was he already Leader of the Opposition at that point? - i.e. was it before or after that year's General Election?

Re: Does anyone remember this advert?

I am sure that in around 1989 WHSmith advertised "back to school" items with a man's head - "your mates will think you're an egghead" is mentioned as an egg is cracked on his bald head. I know that...

    Re: School visitors

We mostly heard the fire alarm go off rather than get the Fire brigade visiting, although nine times out of ten it would almost be a false alarm. Someone attempted arson on an Art Room at some point...

    Re: The Gideons

They used to vary in colour and size - some were bright red while others could be burgundy or even purple or brown. Older editions were a darker or red or brown, while newer ones were a brighter red...

    Re: Jotters.

They had more pages than an average exercise book and felt as if they were made on recycled paper - I never used to like using them because of the roughness of the books and paper inside.

    Re: Doctor sleep

Not long after we had our first VCR, my sister used to have a thing about 18 certificate films, renting videos from a local video place (ID included methinks), and even taping them off the TV - one...

It's amazing that we think alike as members of this forum - I don't know whether it is anything to do with the past and comparing where we lived and how we lived decades ago and now, and thinking...

I just remembered that in around 1987 the regular leisure centre that we had our swimming lessons was closed due to renovation, and so we had to travel a few miles on the bus to another leisure...
