Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

Dad's Army is still shown on BBC 2 on Saturday nights, so hardly a programme that would "not" be shown nowadays.

Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

I cannot believe how Rising Damp is repeatedly shown - I have always thought of the sitcom as being a satire on private renting, and the "couldn't care less as long as I get my rent at the end of the...

Yes, it would be shown on your own TV if you put the DVD on. ;)

I don't think that it will ever happen - sitcoms like that are in the past.

Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

I assume that was due to Sid James' character and his antics - the only disclaimer I can think of is warning viewers that the cast are probably wearing flares or something.

At least ITV realise that they do have a past after all.

Further to my previous response, the 1979 edition of Guinness Hit Singles would have been the second edition as it was published every two years.

ITV 3 still showed On the Buses as recently as last year, and the film spin off sometimes get shown on Bank Holidays.

I believe that the first Guinness Book of Hit Singles was published in 1977.

I know that ABBA's name comes from the first initials of the group members - I think that they were blessed in a way for that.

I always assumed that ZZ Top's name was chosen so that they could be listed last alphabetically in the Guinness Book of Hit Singles (in the same wat that ABBA and later A1 chose their names so that...

Interesting how we automatically pronounce ZZ Top as "Zee Zee Top" by habit when we see if written down, even in Great Britain.

Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

It's mostly a European thing - French spellings resemble British spellings when it comes to words like "colour" and "flavour", and as Britain is closer to France, it's not surprising. Nited States,...

Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

A lot of British sitcoms did Australian versions such Father, Dear Father and Are You Being Served? - John Inman's voice could even be heard on Joan Ferguson's TV in a PCBH episode.

Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

I am certain that Love Thy Neighbour was shown as recently as the early 1990s when UK Gold started, and it was probably the first TX of it since the mid 1970s.
