    Harry Greene?

I remember that "Dream Home" programme he did in the 80s.
  2. Re: Sinclair Radios, TV & other pre-computer products

Before 1984 when BT was privatised, AFAIK most phones were hard wired with no socket. So you couldn't easily change phones anyway.

We moved house in 1984, and we still had the old type black phone...

    Re: Your favourite School year

I don't know about the "best year" the best day was the day I left school for good.
School for me varied between "bad" and "only just bearable"
    I wasn't bullied. I was OK academically. I had...

Re: Political correctness to a ludicrous degree

I don't think that people should go around being deliberately offensive, but I hate PC in all it's forms, and this whitewashing of the past.

Same here. A different thing, but I remember teachers printing out sheets for us on those Gestetner duplicator machines.

    Re: The Monkees

I reckon that The Monkees, however they first came together, had some decent hits.
Much, much better than a lot of the modern plastic stuff that comes from present day "made up" bands.
    And will...

    Re: Channel 4

I'm pretty sure Brookside was shown on the first day of transmission of Ch4.
    We watched it.
As for the multiple channels now available: so much choice, but very little worth watching?

    Re: Timothy Whites

I remember the shop in the town where I grew up quite well.
As said they did kitchenware as well as I remember it.
"Timothy White's and Taylors" originally I think. We've got a stone hot water...

Re: Christopher Lee Was The BEST Dracula Ever

I reckon Max Schreck as Count Orlok in Nosferatu is the scariest one.
When that shadow of the "vampyre" goes up the stairs is still scarier than the later ones IMHO.

    Re: Seven Second Delay

Basically just record it from voice and play it back to broadcast a few seconds later I'd have thought.

    Re: Camp Coffee

Haven't had it for years. I quite like it, because it's a different flavour.
Bloke I used to work with liked it, and he'd ask me if I wanted a cup occasionally.
Funnily enough we were only talking...

    Re: Wankel Enginre

Not rotary engined, but back in the 60s a mate's dad had an NSU Prinz 4. It was a nice little car as I remember it. At least it felt more refined than the Fords and Austins of the time.
    The rotor...

Re: what tv programmes should be brought back.

I liked S & S. haven't seen it since we watched the original.
We've literally just finished watching both of the "Survivors" series (again).
I don't think the remake is too bad. I just wish they'd...

I used to watch "Wait til your father gets home" an American domestic sitcom type cartoon. Used to be on late-ish in the mid 70s.

Re: What’s On TV in October 1983

I vaguely remember the repeat of "The Prisoner" at around that time.
I was quite excited about a chance to see it again, but TBH even then I thought it had dated badly.

Re: Alpine and Corona Soft Drinks

I actually did one evening's work for Corona back in the late 60s. Going round knocking on doors asking if people wanted pop delivered.
It actually paid OK IIRC. It was (again IIRC) five bob a...
