    DFS adverts

Discount Furniture Supplies - founded in the late 1960s, so says Wikipedia. I just cannot believe in recent years how much an ironic cult status DFS adverts seem to be, even more than Don Amott - I...

    Sunday afternoons on Radio 2

There is nothing quite nostalgic than Sunday afternoons - nowhere were open to purchase a loaf of bread, Songs of Praise and that EastEnd omnibus thing on BBC 1 and when Open University finished,...

In addition to it being nighttime, it is foggy outside as well and it feels as if across the road is a long way away.

    Re: Bbc 4

When it was launched in 2003 I think, they had that slogan "everyone needs a place to think" or something, and it did make me think that it was a TV channel equivalent of reading The Guardian.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rylan Clark-Neal or someone like that would be hosting.
  10. Re: What songs make you happy??.... Or make you Cry?

Amazing how many number one hits from the 1970s could fall into this category, disco songs excepted of course.

    Re: Songs with boys names

I was just looking at an old thread just now, and it mentioned that Dionne Warwick song Message to Michael (one assumes Message to Martha with a male name). I think it was a Bacharach composition.

    Re: Buzz aldrin...90 today

It's frightening to think of a member of ABBA being in their 70s - mind you, the Brotherhood of Man are around that mark, aren't they?

    Dancing Queen Mother, anyone?

It gets dark now after 4.30 pm and not before 4.00 pm like this time last month.

Checked my post in the box today, and correctly predicted that I would get my new TV Licence in the post, along...

    Re: Bbc 4

There are some good BBC 4 programmes on - over Christmas I saw the Royal Institution Christmas Lectures on there like I do every year.

I used to think that BBC 4 was the Guardian reader's channel...

    Re: Songs with boys names

Excellent one, Richard - one assumes that Elton sung about someone with a boy's name because of his, shall we say, sexuality? (and I assume that this was certainly the case back in 1973?)

    Mind...

    Tarby's Frame Game

Does anyone remember that game show hosted by Jimmy Tarbuck which was on ITV at the weekends between 1987 and 1989? - it was a rather lowkey game show to be honest, although it was enjoyable. Tarby...

    Re: Abba

It's a pity that they never had a Christmas number one - not a song about Christmas, but one which was at the top spot at Christmas time. I think that 1979 was the closest year that they had...

I don't know - summer seemed to last longer when I was younger than the winter months did. Managed to get through Blue Monday without any major problems.

    Re: Crackerjack is back!

I am certain that it was on at 5.00 pm originally back in the 1950s, but was later moved five minutes earlier to 4.55 pm due to some scheduling difficulties? I am certain I read that somewhere.
