  1. Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

Of course in the future they will laugh at the stuff we do now; "You mean people used to actually CARRY a mobile phone in their pockets??" These programmes often fail to mention that, there were...

    Re: Ayds

Yeah, I remember LBC used to broadcast ads for them in the early '80s, and News of the World ran some prints ads...Until that disease became big news. Then it was weird hearing the ads and they...
  3. Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

I don't like those shows anymore, for the reasons that you mentioned. Recently, Channel Five broadcast a Top 20 (or summink) Chocolate adverts. And it was a tad disappointing really. Because it was...
  4. Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

Actually, Les Dawson was a fantastic pianist. The bad playing was all part of his act. Just like Tommy Cooper getting the magic tricks wrong; He did it on purpose after realising one day when he did...
  5. Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

Mike Yarwood was an AWFUL impressionist!! I would compare John Culshaw with him today. He just sounds like himself, all the time.
  6. Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

I loved that show! And I couldn't even ride a pushbike back then.
  7. Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

I think that you have proved my point; Watching repeats is not the same as seeing something when it first aired. Because repeats, especially these days, have been edited. As I mentioned in my last...
  8. Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

You didn't experience the 1970s. That's an important thing to take into account. I remember quite a few things about the '70s - both good and bad. And we certainly don't need those bad things to be...
  9. Re: TV progs that 'HAVE' and 'HAVE NOT' stood the test of time....

I didn't find GOT funny was it was on during the mid '80s. Would love to see KIT CURRAN RADIO SHOW again.
  10. Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

If only PC was the main reason to blame. Then I would be EVEN MORE ALL FOR IT!! But in reality, the reason why these programmes are no longer shown is because they have dated very badly; I've been ...
  11. Re: Television programmes that were suspended or postponed

It wasn't the same. Did not have the same name. Only simlarity was the supermarket. Bruce Forsyth was totally unsuitable for a sitcom.

    Re: Odeon cinemas.....never again!

There are (legal) ways around not having a tv licence. ie, don't own anything with a tuner inside it: Blu Ray / DVD player / PC. Buy a display not a TV. Don't watch "live" TV only catch-up. Etc. etc....

  14. Re: Starsky and Hutch or the Professionals ?

Yep! He even released a single wearing a mask, to hide his good looks, before doing the show. It wasn't a hit.

Loved me S&H but...Watching the Pros on a Friday night was a very big part of my...

  16. Re: Television programmes that were suspended or postponed

Yet another post from me: This series was canned after it's star died.
  17. Re: Television programmes that were suspended or postponed

That show was quite popular (not with me BTW) until it was taken off air.
  18. Re: Television programmes that were suspended or postponed

Remember the Grand National that was a complete fiasco?? They tried 3 or 4 times to start the race, but stuff kept going wrong.

    Re: Odeon cinemas.....never again!

Exactly right! That's one reason why I stopped going to the cinema. I have a big telly, so why not wait for the films to come on it for free? Also I got fed up of paying a tenner or more, to see...

  21. Re: Regional weekday afternoon ITV showings of old films in the 1980s

My first big purchase from my very first job was a Ferguson Videostar I bought around 1987. Looking back, it was a piece of cr@p! But at the time it did the job, and I was able to tape America's...
  22. Re: Regional weekday afternoon ITV showings of old films in the 1980s

That's one of the things I noticed first! Back then I used to look forward to watching some of those shows I missed first time during the holidays, not having a VCR back in them dayz. Especially...
  23. Re: Regional weekday afternoon ITV showings of old films in the 1980s

Just out of curiosity...I searched what programmes were on the Beeb during 11 August 1980. And I have to say, there were some stonking-good shows on during that summer hols:

Re: Get some in 1975 comedy

    I loved that show!

I found Dad's Army to be over-rated and boring - and I still do.
Forces TV was showing GSI last year.
