Leonard was one of my fave Brit comedic actors so I watched this.. Tripper's Day. Never saw the Forsyth version.

Correct. The Forsyth version was Slinger's Day.

He was also in Hot Metal (a sort of prototype Drop The Dead Donkey) and Tutti Frutti (about a fictional rock 'n' roll band, led by Robbie Coltrane - my introduction to both actors!)

Did not see those. I recall him in Only When I Laugh and one where he takes over an old penny arcade with a friend. Now what was that called?

I missed your early reply mate.. sorry. My Good Woman was one I had forgotten. The one where he runs a penny arcade is High And Dry. I have yet to watch this.
It's 1946, and when Ron Archer discovers that the pier at the nearby seaside town of Midbourne is up for sale, he sets out with his son Trevor to find the money to buy it.

Now that's interesting. BBC radio did a sitcom in the 80s called It Sticks Out Half A Mile about a pier being renovated. It, too, was set just after WWII and starred a number of the stars of Dad's Army as the same characters. In the pilot, Arthur Lowe as Captain Mainwaring and Ian Lavender as Pike get a loan from Sgt Wilson (John Le Mesurier) as he is now bank manager. As Lowe was really very ill and may have passed away by the time the series was commissioned, he was replaced by the actor who played the ARP warden in Dad's Army, as the same character, Hodges.
