Re: The soft drinks YO-YO craze

Oh my god I had totally forgotten about this

Used to have major competitions out side the local CO-OP to see who could "walk the dog and rock the cradle"

    Am sure I had a 7up one.

Re: The soft drinks YO-YO craze

I had a Fanta one, but the string snapped. My dad wouldn't pay for a bag of official coke strings and I had to make doo with twine out of the kitchen drawer.

I never 'walked the dog' again.

I had a Coca Cola one and my friend had the Fanta one. Don't think there was a Sprite one about in Ireland, maybe I'm wrong. I think 7up only appeared in the 80's, Sprite came much later.

I meant to say I had mine in '82.

              Coke/Fanta Yo Yos' or Spinners

Does anyone have any recollection of these, remember rushing home from school on a thursday to the local shop, where someone from Coke came to hand these out with spare strings and show you some tricks.....ahhhh the things you used to do eh?

Re: The soft drinks YO-YO craze

I still have my coca cola spinner. Mine has the clear type edge but some had a white edge as shown on the photos in the thread. Was there a difference between the two?

I remember the gimmick of them spinning on the end of the string, hence the name, but I sure went through a lot of strings as they wore out quickly!

I remember some had a white edge, & others a clear one for some reason.

This must be the gold spinner.

                          certainly never had this one.

i had the fanta one which was shown in post 21.

also had a few coke ones as wel.
the one with a white edge im sure i had.

sadly i do not have them now.

dont know if i remember that one that sold for just over 28 quid though.

good to see they sell for good money.
i had many happy hrs with these.

I still have a Coca-Cola one, but it's from the second or third generation, from the early-mid 90s. I remember getting one when they were first released in the 80s. My cousins had a Fanta one and another one, not sure which drink it referred to. There was also a gold Coca-Cola one, they were limited edition or you had to win them or something. Good times.

Mine is also from the early 90's. At the time I thought they were a brand new thing as I had never encountered any yoyos apart from the little rubbishy tin ones. Just goes to show how old fads can spring up again a few years later to catch a new audience.
