  • Orange Hand????

Anyone recall the chain of boyswear stores called Orange Hand?

They were owned by Burtons and had stores in Kensington, Golders Green and were at the cutting edge of boys fashion. Kind of a prototype GAP/H&M but with a Glam touch to it. Ran form 1972-4.

Used to get all kinds of Orange Hand clothing and the famous Orange Hand badge that insisted your were cool.

    Any images would be appreciated.

In one of Denis Gifford's books on comics there's a section of commercial tie-in comics which has a picture of an Orange Hand one featuring Batman.

As I hadn't heard of OH then I wasn't sure if they were British or American.

                Great work.

All we need now is a pic of the famous Orange Hand badge which was the orange fist on a green background..

I use to shop there was one in West Ealing - I bought a drawstring purse with an orange hand on the front and it had a clip to go on your belt. I also had the tee shirt unfortunately my mum threw it away or used it as a duster after a while lol !

I went to the opening of the store in Victoria centre Nottingham with my dad. Freddie from 'please Sir sitcom opened it. My dad bought me a Donald Duck sweatshirt, I would have been 9 years old

We had an Orange Hand in Birmingham. I remember going in aged about 13 to buy some groovy flares - one pair dark green, another wine/purple. A lad in my year at school was caught shoplifting there - he took a load of stuff into the changing room, put on God knows how many pairs of bottoms, and then made a 'dash' for it that was more of a waddle.

Being local to that shopping centre, I wonder which shop is in that place now?

I remember an Orange Hand opening in the Whitgift Centre, in Croydon (top floor, IIRC), when it was a go-to place to do 'Big Shops'. It would have been early to mid-70s. I was very skinny at the time, (not any more!) and my mum struggled to find clothes that would fit me... Until OH opened and they seemed to do clothes for the 'slimmer fit'! )
