  • Songs that should have been a hit

We all have them in our memories, songs that we loved, but they just didn't make it that big hit you know it should have been. These are a couple of mine, what was yours??

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NCvlfe1sVCY ... loving you.... Feargal Sharkey

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2TAEe...feature=fvwrel ... A Gentlemans Excuse me... Fish

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtykSv-wiCg .... Julie.. the levellers

This one i thought was a single, but i cant find it in there singles list, but i loved it and thought it should be heard by more than just us ELO fans...

Apart from Under Pressure, almost all the tracks on Queen's Hot Space album that didn't get released as singles seem to sound better than the ones that did.

Platinum blonde by Prelude. A great song IMO. I agree kev, loving you by Fergal Sharkey is a wonderful song.

A track I have been listening to for, well a few years;-) and it would be
an excellent single, is Archangel Thunderbird from Yeti by Amon Duul.

or, One man Rock and Roll Band by Roy Harper.

Quite a few spring to mind from the 80's ...."Doot Doot" by Freur....bonkers but charming
"Never Again (the days time erased)"by Classix Noveau....just missed the Top 40
          "Telegraph"..by OMD
"Tinsletown in the rain" The Blue Nile
"Feel the raindrops" The Adventures.....great live band
          "This is my life"...Eartha Kitt
"What's She Got" by Liquid Gold post "dizzy" when they wanted to be taken seriously

Great call for Amon Duul - I reckon 'Surrounded by the Stars' (from Wolf City) would make a great single too!
Whilst we're on the subject of Krautrock, Faust's 'It's a Bit of a Pain', Can's 'Half Past One' and Ash Ra Tempel's 'Bring Me Up' or 'Cosmic Tango' would have made good singles.

As for Roy Harper, how about 'Referendum' or 'Hallucinating Light'?

              Where to start.....

'Voices Of Babylon' by The Outfield
'Big World' by Wang Chung - only really known (in the UK anyway) for 'Dance Hall Days', but 'Big World' was epic.
              'Typical!' by Frazier Chorus
'Streets Of Your Town' by The Go-Betweens

              and in the late '90s
'Who Do You Love?' by Mojave 3
'I've Had Enough' by Hillman Minx
"We're the Sweeney son, and we haven't had any dinner!"

There's a few off the top of my head. Blind-Talking Heads (and pretty much everything else they did). See that glow-This Island Earth, Point of no return-Expose, Berserker-Gary Numan, If you leave-Omd and most of Grace Jones stuff.
