    Re: Things that got banned

Cigarette advertising on television was banned completely in Britain in the mid-1960's. (Although somewhat curiously, it did not affect cigars!)

Wasn't there also some new ban introduced a few years ago about not allowing cigarette billboard advertising close to schools?

Advertising cigarettes in the UK ended totally didn't it? I remember driving home the day they were banned and all the adverts were faux banned with censorship lines or fat ladies singing.

You can still buy nerds, usually from dedicated sweet shops. theres a good one in soho, London, which does a variety of american and retro sweets. Actually I always believed they had been banned for some dodgy ingredient, but obviously not. I didn't know about the glass thing.

It was banned by the BBC for being too sexually explicit, but not by the commercial radio stations.

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

List of films which have been banned either in the cinema or on video:

                Deep Throat
                The Exorcist
                Driller Killer
                Texas Chainsaw Massacre
Snuff (mistakenly thought by some to contain a real murder scene)
                Animal Farm (Danish porno movie)

                    Re: Things that got banned

Considering how liberal things have gone nowadays a film must be pretty nasty stuff to get banned from the cinema, DVD or even television. One such example is a film on DVD called "The Bunny Game". It is available through mail order on the Internet but without a BBFC certificate. I haven't seen the film as I wouldn't have the guts to watch such fare so I don't know how someone would go on should they try to get it prosecuted under the Obscene Publications Act.

Perhaps surprisingly one of the few 'video nasties' which are still banned by the BBFC today was made in 1969. Its name is "Love Camp 7". It is banned for similar reasons to "The Bunny Game"

This wasn't exactly banned, per se - it was withdrawn by the director, Stanley Kubrick, as he thought it was too violent...
