Grew up listening to these guys since I was 8. Amazing vocals, guitar and dynamite songs that blasted everything else out of the water. Rainbow were at their best with Dio but there were great moments with Bonnet and Turner.

i'd almost forgotten the sensual pleasure of opening a gate-fold 12" album sleeve and lowering a stylus onto vinyl!
It’s very odd how some old singers keep their voices even thirty years later yet others have completely gone and kinda let their band sound down .

True, Gillans studio recordings are fine but live he just can't cut it anymore

Robert Plant has trouble singing some of Led Zeppelin's songs due to his voice changing, during a recent reunion tour they had to change the key so he could manage.

I was a huge fan of Rainbow's songs - Rod, Jane and Freddy were great band members.

The music in the kids show Rainbow was actually very melodic and listenable...

I even made a ‘best of’ compilation cassette tape for our kids

Good for you - in those pre-VCR days, I used to record it from the TV on a tape recorder.

You could have made it into a Zip file, I suppose (if you excuse the pun).

Do they still make those double tape deck cassette recorders and hi-fis? - Dixons definitely used to sell them. I used to use it to record tapes (talking books and all that) that I borrowed from the library to record on a C90 before I returned them to the library. I used to chill in bed listening to Ken Barrie's dulcet tones reading Postman Pat, and it did get me off to sleep!

I know that there always used to be a copyright warning included in the instruction manual, warning people about taping from other tapes.

(I am certain that people used to do this to record the relevant bands in this thread, by the way).
