    The Eurovision Song Contest came from MalmöMässan, Malmö, Sweden.
    • Ireland won with "Why Me" sung by Linda Martin, scoring 155 points.
    • The UK's entry "One Step Out Of Time" sung by Michael Ball finished 2nd with 139 points.
    • No-one scored nul points; Finland finished last with 4 points: "Yamma Yamma" sung by Pave.
    • Due to the break-up of Yugoslavia, this was the last time Yugoslavia entered under the name Yugoslavia.


    The 1992 Winter Olympics (officially called XVI Olympic Winter Games) were held in Albertville, France from from 8 to 23 February 1992.

    The 1992 Summer Olympic Games, (officially called Games of the XXV Olympiad) were held in Barcelona, Spain from 25 July to 9 August 1992.
    • A total of 169 countries took part and there were 286 events.
    • One associated song was "Barcelona" by Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballé; it reached number 2 on the UK charts.


    UK number one singles included:
    • Wet Wet Wet - "Goodnight Girl"
    • Right Said Fred - "Deeply Dippy"
    • Erasure - "Abba Esque"
    • The Shamen - "Ebeneezer Goode"
    • Whitney Houston - "I Will Always Love You"
