    Re: What do you collect?

I collect original punk vinyl and memoribillia. I think my prize item is a copy of the pistols never mind the ..... album which is signed by all the band Jones, Matlock, Cook, Rotten and Sid and even McClaren has put his scrawl on it. Its the fact that Sid signed it that makes it all the more exciting for me to have in my collection. Rightly or wrongly Mr Vicious has always been a hero of mine from the age of 13 .....

With me it's mainly comics (I have about 28, 000 currently, though I also deal in comics so a couple of thousand are stock) and Doctor Who (I have every surviving episode plus most of the original novels and audio dramas, the 60s movies and the various spinoffs and assorted toys and memorabilia) but also vintage toys (mostly action figures) and cult TV shows on DVD and video. My wife shares my obsession with collecting so our house is kind of like a museum...

I collect a few odds and ends, Mainly computers from the 70s/80s/90s, old electronics or old tools mainly. Alot of the time I just boy retro stuff if it catches my eye, is something i'd use alot or is a rare and cheap!

I do have a cunning plan though to furnish my future flat entirely in stuff from the late 70s/early 80s, even down to the MK5 Cortina outside. My idea was to dissuade burglars into thinking theres nothing worth taking, but if the price of vintage homewares sky rockets, i'm done for!
If it's lasted this long, it's worth keeping!

                great plan there.

let no one know what you have and you will be ok.

                how long you been collecting.

my house is a bit of eighties shrine as well.

If someone can do up their entire house with articles and furnishings from the 1940s, the '70s and '80s shouldn't be very difficult.

When I think of a '70s house, shag carpeting, macramé wall hangings and decoupaged bullfight posters come to mind.

                              Re: What do you collect?

you must have spent tons of money.
Nah, not really. I only buy stuff from ebay if its relatively cheap. And I buy a few items here and there, but not huge amounts.

And to be honest, half the stuff on the list is stuff I bought a few items of and then stopped because I bought what I wanted.
I also buy original items only, so self-made items are of no interest.

The TV adverts, advertising memorabilia, postcards of Ayrshire, wrappers/crisp packets (very occasionally), the odd classic but forgotten/obscure films and TV series/sitcoms
the odd classic British children's tv, and the memorabilia based on those classic films, tv series or children's TV are the ones I still buy.

With Glasgow Rangers, its the odd book and old top in mint condition. I dont really bother with Rangers badges or smaller memorabilia.

I have bought all the (few bits of) Marvin the Martian memorabilia, all the old issues of the TV and Radio Times on CD/CDR that I want.
I still collect Buzby memorabilia occasionally.

And to be honest, I own a few bits of Bond memorabilia and Clockwork Orange memorabilia. But not much.
Carry On film memorabilia I still buy on occasion if its rare.
