  • You know what make me feel old?

That I remember my parents saying

"Have you been playing on the bombed building site?"

I was born in 1966 and was still playing on uncleared WW2 bomb sites in the 70's.This was in Hull which is was a bit behind the times. Does anyone else on here of may age ever play on a bombed building site or was it just Hull?

Please put me out of my misery or in fact enforce it if it was just Hull kids.

    Cheers

No bombed out ruins where I was but what makes me feel old is surfing the net and coming across the pic of a middle-aged man whom you remember as the three-year-old toddler who lived next door when you were growing up.

I started school in '66 and there were Anderson shelters there until the early 70s...

My remembers bomb sites around Watford into the 1960s.

Some people still have Anderson shelters as garden sheds, there used to be one house I used to pass locally with one in the garden painted green to protect it.

My mum had the two separate floor standing machines, one to wash which was connected to the tap and another pipe into the sink, the other to spin dry, she had these big wooden tongs for fishing the hot wet clothes out of the washer to drop into the dryer, exactly like this one:

There was a plastic clip to hold them together which always came off in the spin cycle and the spin dryer would move. I'd put my toys on the lid and watch them dance.
