  • Boris karloff

Boris karloff was born william henry pratt he was born on the 23rd of november 1887 D 2nd of. february 1969.

For his contribution to film and television, Boris Karloff was awarded two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, at 1737 Vine Street for motion pictures, and 6664 Hollywood Boulevard for television.

he starred in films like How the Grinch Stole Christmas! 1966. Bride of Frankenstein 1935. Frankenstein 1931. Thriller 1960. alongside bela lugosi, lon chaney..

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although he played many sinister characters on screen, Karloff was known in real life as a very kind gentleman who gave generously, especially to children's charities.

Beginning in 1940, Karloff dressed up as Father Christmas every Christmas to hand out presents to physically disabled children in a Baltimore hospital.

Despite living and working in the U.S. for many years, Karloff never became a naturalised U.S. citizen, and he never legally changed his name to "Boris Karloff.

He signed official documents "William H. Pratt, a.k.a. Boris Karloff.
    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Karloff was a charter member of the Screen Actors Guild, and was especially outspoken regarding working conditions on sets that actors were expected to deal with in the mid-1930s, some of which were extremely hazardous.

In 1931, Boris Karloff took out insurance against premature aging that might be caused by his fright make-up.

He married six times and had one child, daughter Sara Karloff, by his fifth wife.

Speaking of Frankenstein, I saw Helena Bonham Carter in "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" (1994) and in "Great Expectations" (2012). She set fire to herself in both films, the first on purpose and the second accidentally. Does anyone know of any other parts in which has set fire to herself?
It seems some actors & actresses can be being typecast.

I've read a few times, that Boris Karloff lived in London, and his neighbours were Sir Christopher Lee and Vincent Price.Apparently, they all lived as close as possible to each other when they were in London.

          Re: Boris karloff

There is no mention at all,or photographs/film of Peter Cushing ever having met Boris Karloff. In both books that Peter Cushing wrote about himself, his life and the people he had met,he never once mentioned ever meeting Boris Karloff.
In 1967 Boris Karloff made a film for Tigon called: The Sorcerers. In 1968 Peter Cushing made a film for Tigon called: The Blood Beast Terror.Did they ever meet at the studio but never mention it?
Christopher Lee,Vincent Price,Boris Karloff and even John Carradine all met up,made films together etc, yet, not one mention of Peter Cushing and Boris Karloff ever having met,or even being mentioned by each other.
I personally find it difficult to believe Peter Cushing and Boris Karloff never met, considering they all had homes in London so close to each other.Boris Karloff and Peter Cushing lived extremely close to each other in Kensington,London.
Here's a run down of their locations and how close they were living.

          Boris Karloff - 29 Sheffield Terrace,Kensington,London.

          Peter Cushing - 16 Hillsleigh Road,Kensington,London.

Street Route between houses: 1: Sheffield Terrace. 2: Campden Hill Road. 3: Hillsleigh Road.

Distance time to walk: 7 Minutes.

Distance time to drive by car: 1 minute ( or about 4 minutes, seeing as Peter Cushing always rode a bicycle ).

          Distance: 0.3 miles / 528 Yards.

As you can see above,Peter Cushing and Boris Karloff lived extremely close to each other, and to the other horror stars when they all lived in London. The reason they never mentioned or discussed each other etc,is pretty conclusive to my mind, they both simply had a Contract not to.Probably, and simply down,to the word: Frankenstein.
Christopher Lee was always visiting Peter Cushing and Boris Karloff at their homes, and vice versa. It is inconceivable Christopher Lee never took Peter Cushing Next door to visit Boris Karloff, and vice versa, never took Boris Karloof just up the road to Peter Cushing's House.
Even though they never mentioned it,i think we can conclude Peter Cushing and Boris Karloff did meet up very frequently and were very good friends.

Thanks for doing all that, I had a feeling that Christopher Lee & Peter Cushing were friends, & Vincent Price comes accross as being the sort of person who wouldn't feel out of place seeing them socially.

Christopher Lee and Peter Cushing were very good friends. When Peter Cushings wife died,Christopher Lee and his wife let him
live with them at their home, while they were making the film: Horror Express ( i think it was that film ).Peter Cushing was going to drop out of the film, but Christopher Lee persuaded him to go through with it.

Boris Karloff was also one of the founding members of the Hollywood Cricket Club (HCC) which is still in existence today. Other members included Nigel Bruce, Ronald Coleman, Errol Flynn, Cary Grant, Leslie Howard (who actually hated cricket but joined for social reasons), David Niven, Lawrence Olivier, Basil Rathbone, and P.G. Wodehouse.
