      Re: favourite musical films

i hate musicals i just dont get people suddenly bursting into song and dance at the drop of a hat if you did that in the middle of the high street you`d be locked up not have 45 other people all joining in

the worst ones are the films about composers theres all ways a scene where you see the main character at their piano playing a brand new piece for the first time suddenly an orchestral backing track bursts out from nowhere and everyone in the neighbour hood sings along if he didnt even know the completed song 5 minutes ago how does the entire street know it...........give me a film about aliens any day far more believable..

              Re: favourite musical films

As a fan of the silent era and early talkies most of my favorite musicals are probably off most people's radar Off the top of my head some of my favorites are:

Cocoanuts (1929) -- The Marx Bros. first film
Elstree Calling (1930) -- The very first British movie musical. Some of the segments were directed by a young Alfred Hitchcock. It also featured Cecily Courtneidge of "On The Buses" fame
              Thoroughly Modern Millie (1969)
              The Boyfriend (1971)
              Pennies From Heaven (1981)
              Chicago (2002)

Mary poppins - especially as 'lets go fly a kite' is being used on an advert
Half a Sixpence - not really a children's musical but one of the first I remember watching and enjoying.
