Two more singers, at the height of their fame in the late 1950's/1960's, but still well-known stars in the early 1970's:

        Gene Vincent - 1971, aged 36

        Bobby Darin - 1973, aged 37

And one more I don't think mentioned as yet! -

        Elvis Presley - 1977, aged 42

it would've been great if Queen had made more albums.
Controversial, perhaps, but I always thought after the F.M. tribute concert that queen might have done well to use George Michael as their lead singer. Of course no-one should even have tried to replace the charisma if Freddie, but George did a decent job with his songs back then, and such a collaboration in the mid nineties may have preserved the careers of all concerned.

And that reminds me: Michele Gallagher who played George in the 1970's series of The Famous Five, apparently committed suicide circa 2000. Not sure of her exact age, but must have only been in her 30's.

90's Childrens TV star Mark Speight comes to mind, his girlfriend passed away and then he ended up committing suicide as he couldn't be without her. I think he had been missing for a few days and his body was found. I was always a big fan of his and thought he was very entertaining, a great artist too. I just checked his page out on Wiki and it made me feel so sad. RIP Mark.

In 1979 I was in the studio audience of one of the episodes of "Diffren't Strokes." I remember that I had a cold at the time so if you hear somebody coughing, that was probably me.

I can't say I remembering hearing you, but then it is probably about 15 years or more since I even last saw the series re-run. I can't even remember if that was here or when I was in the U.S.

Ah, thanks. I couldn't find her date of birth anywhere, but knew she must have been somewhere around that age from how old she would have been in 1978. I know there were rumours and uncertainty about her demise for a while.

Somewhat off the topic, but some years ago I was informed that a girl from my old class in junior school had "gone off the rails" somewhat as she got older, and ended up being found dead in her apartment, sometime in her mid 30's. So sad, and if you'd have asked me to name somebody from my old class to whom that could have happened, I certainly would never have picked her - She was always the very studious and quiet type, good grades, was hall monitor and head girl, etc.
