  • Anyone watch BBC's summer weekday kids shows in the 80s?

I'm trying to jog my memory about this subject. I remember in the hot summer days of the 80s that BBC would offer a run of television during the daytime (but only on weekdays).

Some shows definitely I remember them having were 'Why Don't You' and that 50's version of 'Superman'. They may have show some 'Captain Marvel' animated show too but I can't be sure of it. Overall I get the impression it was just a dumping ground for old programs (ie they never had any of the cool new shows I wanted to watch (eg MASK, HeMan, Transformers etc) but regardless of that I found what they had entertaining enough. I think for the most part I would be sitting there playing with Lego while the tv was on in the background.

Also this wasn't the typical CBBC timeslot either. I seem to recall it was probably in that '10am - 12pm' timeslot and I don't seem to recall there being any between-program hosts or anything. I get the vibe it might have started after that 'Pebble Mill' show because of the mere fact that I'm familiar with 'Pebble Mill' (a program I would have had 0% interest in watching). As to a year I'm thinking it was probably bang on the mid-80s (ie 84-86).

So does anyone have any memories of this time (specifically what shows were on)?

Why dont you was one of the kids TV shows that was put on during the school summer holidays

I seem to remember others "oldies" such as Stingray, the lone Ranger, champion the wonder horse and flash gordon would be shown most holidays

Not like that now ..... 20 kids channels running 24/7

kids are so spoiled for choice now
Age is just a number - If yours bothers you stop counting

I remember the Pink Panther Show was a regular feature in the 1980s, along with The Adventures Of Huckleberry Finn, The Battle Of The Planets & The Monkees.

These seemed to keep coming back each summer until But First This came along & most of the oldies were dropped, though that didn't stop Underwater Kingdom being dusted down & screened one holiday in the early 1990s.

I remember a cartoon called Willy Fogg around the world in 80 days being shown, and it seemed to be on all summer.

That and Mysterious Cities of Gold. Can still hear the theme tunes in my head now as they were shown ad nauseum at one point in the late 80s

I liked those 2 but I only remember them being on in the afternoons rather than the mornings.
