i have a 16 year old daughter who has just finished her GCSE's and is already missing it (and she goes back in 6th form in september)

school is generally speaking a time when some of your greatest memories will be formed and best friendships made

i love the life I have but I would go back and do it all over again in a heartbeat
Yet within two years of leaving school I'd ditched all those I'd went to school with and on the whole I avoid those school mates I hadn't known from Infant school

Re: Did you never want to leave School?

One problem I found at secondary school was having to put a lot more time & effort into working in both lessons & home, so it was hard to socialise except at breaks or saturdays when I was free.

At my school as each year progressed lessons were more mixed in with pupils from other forms, especially after taking options, which meant it I didn't spend much time with anyone much.

By the end I only had 1 true friend & eventually drifted apart when we started working.

This sounds exactly how I felt Palazzo about not every day being fab - this makes so much these day's I know feel/think. If only things could be said at a certain point "this is your future" i'd like that so so much. Granted School had points where I could not tolerate it but I guess I had a like/loafe relationship with the place, but with more emphasis on the "like" part - though it wasn't always constantly the "like" that was more than than the "loafe, but I think School had everything in terms of Social Life elemants and and Learning, not as I truly thought of it as so while there, or for Years after! Though as the old saying goes "regrets - I've had a few" and School/School-life for sure now is part of that thought for me I feel/think.

I was lead to beleive that friends made at secondary will be friends for life. But in reality they quickly dissapear when you leave or you yourself want nothing more to do with them.In my case I decided to turn my back on them as they were not what I could call true friends and looking back now they were the cause of so many problems I had at school.

                Thats a shame

i suppose I was lucky in that some of my friends frrom school are still my friends now though as you say the majority of them I havent spoken to in years

dont get me wrong there are cerrtain 'friends' from school that I wouldn't give the time of day now but if I look back they were never my friend more someone who shared my social circle

Again maybe I was lucky but school was a good time for me or maybe it was just a less complicated time

I have a friend who i have known since the age of 3 went to nursery and primary school together but went to different high schools but we lived in the same village. Still see him more or less a couple of times aweek. We also had a landscape gardening business for a while. We are both 35 now.

Re: Did you never want to leave School?

I loved school and the idea of going back to it does have some appeal. I miss education now. The only bad times at school I can remember were due to an awful teacher who killed my interest in taking biology as an option in my 3rd year of high school. I had a good time at school, I enjoyed college - which was basically school but with more freedom and I absolutely adored uni - my final year at uni was probably the happiest, worry-free time of my life. In my work life I've always enjoyed training or courses. I guess I'm just a sucker for education.

                      Cheers,

I think similar as you say about going back Finn, though at times that hat was the "time that was that time in question" and of course a time happens when everyone has to leave School. A part of me wonders if I am looking at this, that I am just hoping I am right and trying to convince myself of this, though School was truly fantastic and something and bad time all at the same time, though it was but to what degree now i'd not like to call really!! Though I guess too this is where nostalga makes me think too that I never wanted to leave School and gives me distorted thoughts about it at times. Nostalga can be almost as powerfull as hindsight in these respects I think, where one day you think it is clear one or the other ... but another it can be a real hazy line that is too near to call either way.

I would never have left Junior/ Primary school, it was absolutely the best part of my youth being there.

You would have to drag me kicking and screaming to go back to secondary school, hated every minute of it...

I totally can echo your thoughts here Fin - same for me I always enjoyed Training and Courses too mate. Same at This was the same too at School as well as College, when the School's provided educational trips and conventions (well one!) on team-building etc. If I knew then what I know now I'd sure appreciate these times a lot lot more without doubts with hindsight!
