    Re: Favorite old car/s

My fave old cars were my dad's MG Magnette he had in the early 70s and my hubby's Alfa Romeo Guilia he had in the early 80s.
Wish we'd kept the Alfa, it is worth a fortune now. There is one on ebay selling for £30,000!!

        Re: Favourite old car/s

I'm always thrilled to see an old car (or van, truck etc). I know nothing of the technical side of vehicles, and have never driven one (public transport is good enough for me), but I love their designs. Modern vehicles all look the same, and as the old ones get rarer and rarer, so on the occasion that you do spot one it's all the more fascinating. Features of the old cars include the bulbous shapes behind the headlamps, the tailfins with the narrow little tail lights, and their low build - modern cars are much too big, like everything else. I know little of the makes of vehicles, but I don't need to. Your dog or cat doesn't need to know your name to recognise you.

Actually, I've somewhat exaggerated my ignorance there. I can name the obvious ones - the Mini, the Morris Minor and the Volkswagen Beetle - and there's still plenty of them around. I can also recognise the Ford Anglia, with its striking contrast of curves and sharp angles, and one of the Cortinas from the 60s - the one with the hexagonal tail lights, if that's any help. I like old buses, too. Vehicles used to be works of art, now they're just boxes on wheels.

my favourite car from childhood was my either my dads stilletto or the alpine, my favourite 70's car i owned would have to be my pea green MKIII XL Cortina estate my dad gave me to learn in. what a tank.
it had that raw leaded petrol and old vinyl smell inside.

My first car was a bright yellow Ford Escort Mk.2 "Popular" It was only a 1.1 and as basic as a car could be but I loved it, had it for nine years and three girlfriends. Then it just needed too much welding every MOT day so it had to go. *sniff*

I'm pleased to say this is not the same as my dad's MG Magnette.

                            Re: Favourite old car/s

My favourite classic car is the Lotus Esprit S2.

My love for this car began when my dad bought one in the mid-80's. His was a 1978 model, and was metallic brown when he bought it, but he had his own body repair/spray shop, so he carried out a full respray and changed the colour to red.

He got rid of it after about 3-4 years, as someone drove into the front end. He used it as his everyday car, and realised it was a bit of a liability.

Been looking around, and would love to buy one, if only I had the disposable money for it, and a garage to keep it in, as I'd use it as my 'sunday car'.

However, in terms of everyday cars, I was a big fan of 'The Professionals' on TV, and loved the Ford Escort RS2000 driven by Doyle, and of course the Ford Capri 3.0S driven by Bodie.
