  • Late 60s Children's TV show

    Hi there all,

Apologies for the lack of info provided here, but a relative of mine is sure that this programme existed in the late 60's.
Not sure if it was a one off, or series, but here is the info I have.
Seemingly the presenter, or one of them was dressed as an Arabian Night, and it was set in a Castle turret with film clips being shown through background windows, It was on ITV/STV he thinks about 4 pm.
He also reckons there was some sort of slogan, and a pet monkey or bird, with the presenter doing magic tricks.
If I can find out any more, I'll add it to the thread, but any help in finding out the programme name would be much appreciated.

Ali Bongo had a slot on the BBC's Zokko. Perhaps he also did this thing. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ali_Bongo

Maybe it was The Sooty Show? Ali Bongo often appeared.

      Or possibly Pardon My Genie.

Or quite probably Ali Bongo's Cartoon Carnival.

A TWO-PRONGED, double-content pre-GRANDSTAND bonanza from P. Daniels’ late “magic consultant”. Ingredient A: “Bong” stands in front of a machine he called The Great Pandemonium – a giant structure with six or eight windows, each with a lever beneath used to open it, revealing the titular cartoon behind (for instance, PIXIE AND DIXIE). For ingredient B “Bong” becomes children’s party entertainer and does crappy tricks like placing three apples in front of him, asking “How can I move the first apple to the middle without touching it?”, and proceeding to move the opposite apple over. Boo!

Thanks for the replies guys, I've suggested them all to him, but he doesn't think its any of them.
Might be an idea to write to STV (he seems to remember it being ATV) and ask if they have a list of late 60's children's TV shows that had similar content and take it from there.

Doing a bit of further checking guys, I noticed the excellent archive at http://radiosoundsfamiliar.com/the-t...hive-1960s.php
Not all issues are there, but hopefully browsing through the ones that are should throw up some more clues to the name of the show in question.

              Here's one for Radio Times.
