  • animation of novels school television

in the 1970`s or early 80`s during the morning schools programmes slot i seem to recall there was the re telling of classic novels in the form of cartoons (i thought the title of the programme was classic novels but scrolling through page after page on google came up with nothing) im sure it was all the normal stuff oliver twist ,a Christmas carol ,kidnapped etc but amongst these there was one i had never heard of i can roughly remember it was the story of the last two birds in their species male and female and one dies(im sure that was the gist of it anyway) it was a very hard topic for a kids cartoon (cant remember this books title either)
anyone have any ideas to either the series or this particular book?

The series was called "Animated Classics." The episode I remember clearly was Cyrano de Bergerac.
