  • Butlin's to Launch Online Archive in 2016

Press Release from Butlin's, something to look forward to for all fans of Butlin's

Butlin's Launches New Archive Project with HAT

In preparation for their 80th anniversary in 2016, Butlin’s, founded in 1936 by Sir Billy Butlin, have joined forces with HAT to transport the Butlin’s personal brand archive into the twenty-first century. Over the coming years, the partnership will make available their classic PR, advertising, film, photography and memorabilia to be explored by the nation online.

As a successful and profitable business, privately owned by parent company Bourne Leisure Limited, Butlin’s believe that embracing their founder’s pioneering spirit and reinventing it for the modern families will be the secret to the next eighty years of the great British brand’s success.

This new archive project aims to unlock the rich nostalgia in the stories of the people who made Butlin’s great. From Sir Billy Butlin himself, the Butlin’s famous Redcoats, thousands of dedicated team members and millions of Great British holiday makers, this new partnership will allow treasured Butlin’s memories to be remembered in their anniversary year and relived by future generations for many years to come.

As a business, the Butlin’s archive story will also help inform the future development of their three resorts in Bognor Regis, Minehead and Skegness and continue to lead the authentic creative development of their brand.

Rachel Kepinska-Smith, Creative Development Manager of Butlin’s Marketing commented:

“We're delighted to have found an organisation that is as dedicated to preserving the history of our nation's brands as we are. We're confident that the passion, dedication and way of working of the team at HAT will fit seamlessly into our culture, and their facilities and expertise will help us uncover and ultimately preserve our rich heritage.”

HAT aims to have catalogued the Butlin’s Heritage Collection by the end of 2015, with many significant items also digitised for view online. In place for Butlin’s anniversary in 2016, the interactive functionality of HAT’s online portals will also allow members of the public to help piece together missing parts of the eighty years of Butlin’s great history.
The only thing to look forward to is the past

Same here, I went to Minehead in 1985, in some respects it didn't look too different from Hi-De-Hi!

Sounds very interesting H.G - thanks for the "Heads Up"

We only went to Butlins once - Ayr in 1987!! What a terribly torrid weak weather wise it was too (and this was at the end of May-first week in June) It rained every day non stop until evening par Thursday and par when we called at Carlisle on the way home! Will always recall this year as the football Leauge Play Offs had just started and Preston N.E had just avoided going into them to win Promotion from Division 4 to 3 that season!
