      Re: The Gideons

The Gideons have scaled back their operations in schools in recent years because a high proportion of their bibles end up burnt, used as toilet paper, or turned into roll-ups before the school day has ended. When I was handed my Bible I replied "do you give away electron microscopes" because the print in them is so tiny.

I've still got mine but hardly ever use it.

One of my friends who is a regular church goer reckoned it wasn't as good as the King James version.

I well remember them coming around the school. Had my Bible for years after. Don't know what happened to it.

Yes, in my first year at secondary school; they distributed small red bibles in our R.E. lessons. That would have been September or October 1991.

Mine is red, but they did show us some other colours at school for prisons, hospitals etc.

The ones in hotel rooms always seem to be brown leather.

Why are they only the New Testament when the Old Testament has more interesting stories and historical accounts?

They visited our secondary school while I was in year 1 1973-74. I still have mine somewhere. I think they were New Testament only books that we were given.

They don't use the old testament as that is where the bad side of Christianity is murder , genocide, slavery rape .... you know all that stuff that the all loving god actually endorses ... hypocrites

sorry but religion winds me up

I am trying to remember but I think the Psalms were also included. It was quite a small book, about pocket-diary size and nowhere near as thick as the standard Bible containing both testaments.
