Help recalling an 80s kids TV series

This one's been bugging me all day.

It was an 80s TV series featuring these small little brown furry things one wore a bobble hat and I think one had granny specs and a little grey tache. I think they lived underground or in a forest. The animation was very much like The Wombles and I think it was on the BBC in the early 80s.

Anyone?
