Ken Morrison of Morrison's Supermarket fame, has sadly passed away aged 85

I feel/think that yeah Supermarkets are loathed but Ken Morrison was a genius - up there with the like's of Marks and Spencer and the person who founded Asda etc

To start on two Market stalls as Ken did and eventually run Supermarket's as was so in the 1950s/60s and to then have "said Supermarket" in the top 4 of the supermarket's in the Country shows skill as did Ken's skills at being a Shop Floor guy/worker when needed which proved to me Ken and Morrison's was'nt totally about Money 100% and that Ken was a genuine and honestly nice and humble guy

True, but the stores did not keep up with the times and buying Safeway was a mistake. They seem to have caught up again in recent years but their stores still seem to have a slightly downmarket feel somehow.

Morrison's bought up Safway as they didn't have many Southern stores, & Waitrose snapped up the Northern Safeways Morrisons didn't want as they wanted to expand Northwards.

Buying up the empty Blockbuster Video shops to turn into Local shops didn't work out for Morrison's either.

There was a Morrisons in Romford recently, which lasted about a month! It's now a Co Op...
