  • Anchor butter

In the early 1990's there was a series of adverts for Anchor Butter with singing and dancing cows. Below is the first in the series. I always thought they were pretty clever. But I could never quite catch the words.

    Can anyone make it out?

      Re: Anchor butter

      Thanks for the reply.

It doesn't sound like "in a pasture." The next line is certainly "eat pasture" and it doesn't sound the same. I can't be certain, but I don't think that's it.

      Any other ideas?

Could be. Doesn't make much sense, but it could be.

I remember watching one of those Points of View-type programmes where someone wrote in to ask how they got the cows to be animated as that on screen.

It's almost like looking cross-eyed at the TV screen when they are on.

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

I have a Betamax tape with the first advert on. Would you believe it’s from 1987!

Love Anchor butter, and after seeing this I love it even more! If only they had commercials like this still airing!

Funnily enough, I was watching the VE Day 75 celebration on BBC One where they sung a vocal version of Swing the Mood and it immediately reminded me of that Anchor Butter advert from the late 1980s with the dancing cows singing along to that tune. Great adverts.

I saw a BBC comedy programme do a parody of the Anchor "we are lucky cows" advert - I think it was either one of Russ Abbot's or Les Dennis' shows.
