Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

    Re: Gladice

Every so often GLADICE would suddenly go off air when the then Radio Regulatory Department (now the Radio Authority)came dangerously close homing in on their signal desperate to take the many pirate stations (including GLADICE) off air. Spoil sports lol

The way I see it if a pirate radio station was broadcasting on an existing radio station's frequency then fair enough close the pirate station. But these radio stations were mainly transmitting below 88mhz (just below the BBC's radio 2 so no problem to that radio station) & also above 106mhz so below the 88 & above 106 was the then unallocated radio band on FM. They also transmitted on 1600mhz AM which was also the frequencies for cordless telephones pre DECT encrypted cordless phones

The whole point is they were using low power transmitters (mainly 25 watts) transmitting to an area of approximately twenty miles A better than average antenna would increase that radius to up to thirty miles

When the likes of Caroline & Veronica & London and such like were transmitting their pirate radio to us appreciative 18 to 30 public the Marine Offences Act came in. Not to be outwitted by the authorities they used low power transmitters. In fact it was the likes of Caroline that inspired the BBC's Radio 1 when the BBC realised they now would have a whole new audience to draw to their radio stations. No more Home Service Before that Radio Luxembourg & the pirates were the stations the kids of the day flocked to
