  • Re: Christmas TV

    Great listings and well-appreciated.

Re: Xmas Day 1980 on ITV...Yes, I remember that Runaround when they were on ice skates. Morcombe and Wise had a pretty stellar guest list that year--shame their work for ITV never reached the heights it did for the Beeb.

Yes things did start to change from the start of the nineties.

A couple of good programmes each year on an otherwise poor festive schedule.

aboard the huge liner Poseidon celebrate New Year's Eve in the traditional

wave has capsized the ship and for the small band of survivors of the
initial disaster, the question is - can they escape from the floating
death trap before it sinks to the bottom of the sea?

11.15pm Peace in No Man's Land
The story of the Christmas Truce Narrated by Martin Jarvis
On Christmas Eve 1914 on the Western Front, British and German soldiers
sang carols to each other across a frosty, moonlit No Man's Land.
The next morning, on Christmas Day, hundreds of men of both
nations emerged from the trenches to talk, joke, take photographs and
exchange souvenirs, in the most famous fraternisation of the First World
                  War.
This remarkable event is remembered by three soldiers who took part:
Graham Williams of the London Rifle Brigade; Leslie Walkinton of the
Queen's Westminster Rifles and Albert Moren, of The Queen's Regiment.
And another truce of that war, on another front, is recalled by
Dr Friedrich Kohn, former Medical Officer attached to the

                      9.20am The Curious Cat
                      narrated by Eleanor Bron
Most people have strong feelings about cats; you either like them or
dislike them. But few of us have ever glimpsed the private
undomesticated cat-the cat that lives on its own, away from human
companions. In the heart of the Devon countryside, on open
farm-land, four cats - a mature tom and three females-were studied
and filmed for a year. Their story gives a picture of the cat in the wild
which will make us all-whether cat lovers or not-think quite differently
about an animal which, for centuries, we have taken for granted

Here it is at last - the film that more people have been to the cinema

stormy romance of Rhett Butler and Scarlett O'Hara is played out
against the devastating conflict of the Civil War and the South's
                      traumatic reconstruction, in epic scale.
Part 1: Southern belle Scarlett O'Hara is mortified to learn that Ashley
Wilkes, the handsome neighbour with whom she fancies herself in
love, is about to announce his engagement to his cousin, Melanie
Hamilton. Ashley is attracted to Scarlett like a moth to a candle but
lacks the courage either to woo her or to make her realise that it is
Melanie he loves - a mistake which is to have a lasting effect on all their
lives. On the day of Ashley's betrothal, Rhett Butler, black sheep of an
old Charleston family, is an amused witness of Scarlett's pique ...
