No, Softly Softly was made by the BBC....the series I am asking about was ITV. As well as George Sewell, the series starred Patrick Mower. The title was two words and was exactly the same as an actual section of the police, the first section being formed within the Met in the 1880s.

It doesn't look like anyone else is going to come up with the answer, so would you care to name it, Zaba? BTW it was only series 3 and 4 that Sewell and Mower played the main characters. In series 1 and 2 it was Derren Nesbitt.

Spot on. Not too well remembered nowadays. Euston Films dropped it in favour of making The Sweeney, which, of course, is a classic piece of UK TV drama.

OK - Ed Bishop played Ed Straker in UFO but which part did he play in which other Gerry Anderson series?

I believe he provided the voice for Captain Blue in Captain Scarlet and the Mysterons. I think he also did the pre-titles voiceover...."The Mysterons, sworn enemies of Earth......"
