  • Dave Allen's political anagrams

At the very start of the 1980s the Irish comedian Dave Allen made some anagrams of the names of politicians. The only ones I can remember are:

REV IAN PAISLEY = VILE IRA PANSY

SHIRLEY WILLIAMS = I WHIRL AIMLESSLY

The first I remember as particularly apt because Mr Paisley was leading a campaign called 'Keep Ulster Safe from Sodomy' (we should have a thread about crazy lost causes of the 70s/80s sometime) and Dave Allen said or rather shouted out the words in Paisley's strong Northern Irish accent. The second is memorable because it is so apt. Has anyone any others to add to the list?

I remember Richard Stilgoe was good at these. At the time when Rhodesia was becoming Zimbabwe, there was a contender for the Premiership there called Bishop Abel Muzarawe (I think). Stilgoe called him Oops Ah Rule Zimbabwe!
Time flies like the wind, fruit flies like bananas - go figure!

An anagram of Richard Stilgoe is 'Rich Old Git ****' [fill in the missing word]! A shame in a way, because I really like him. Sir Richard Stilgoe now, of course.

It was Bishop Abel Muzarewa, I think. If I remember rightly, he was a Shona, like Mugabe, whereas Joshua Nkomo (remember that big fellow) was an Ndebele, from Matabeleland.
