Pity they couldn't have aired TOTP2 without Steve Wright's voiceover.

I always preferred Old Grey Whistle Test to Top of the Pops; also John Peel on his radio show where he played tapes from those bands who were unsigned

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

I don't think that many episodes exist officially, and even then, they would have had various acts and presenters edited out for all the obvious reasons.

Between 1964 & 1975 surviving shows are patchy, but most from 1976-7 survive, & all from 1978 apart from the odd one where the tapes are faulty.

It's interesting that the episodes of TOTP were first repeated in 2011 on BBC Four, and they started from April 1976 onwards. Was it any coincidence that Coronation Street episodes on Granada Plus when the channel started up in 1996, were also started from April 1976 as well?

I assume that April 1976 marked a watershed in British television where as of that month, programmes were officially archived from that point onwards, and would be officially complete as of that time. It seems like to me anyway unless anyone else knows any different?
