Another great from my childhood has gone. R.I.P. Rodney Bewes.
Who cared about rules when you were young?

That is sad news. As well as his role as Bob Ferris, Rodney was the first of Basil Brush's human sidekicks when Basil got his own show. He also appeared in the classic film Billy Liar. RIP.

This sure is a shock to learn of rodney's passing.

Unlike James Bolam, who played Terry to Rodney's Bob, Rodney Bewes didn't have as successful a career

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

A pity that his stint with Basil Brush is overlooked in the tributes. I am sure that to most kids growing up in the 1970s, Basil Brush would be their strongest memory of Bewes.

Strangely, I can't remember him with Basil Brush. I remember Roy North. Didn't Rodney Bewes appear on an advert? Possibly something to do with fish?

Apparently, Jim Bolam and Rodney Bewes did not get on well with each other. Is thus true?

Neither can I for obvious reasons, but I think that Bewes was Basil's first "straight-man" circa 1970 which would have been after the b/w Likely Lads series and before the Whatever Happened to... series, and that is probably why you wouldn't have remembered him.

I heard they fell out because Rodney Bewes accidentally mentioned in an interview that Jim Bolam's wife was pregnant, or something like that.

I presume James Bolam liked to keep his private life out of the media.
