        Re: A Return To 70s Hammer/Amicus mayhem..

Here are a few questions about British horror films from the 1960s and 1970s. I have cast the net a bit wider to include films from smaller companies.

        1. In which film was Peter Cushing's character's hand cut off to prevent him suffering a worse fate?

        2. In which film was there a 'werewolf break'.

        3. Which Hammer starlet was the Lamb's Navy Rum girl?

        4. Which Hammer leading man of later productions starred in a successful BBC sitcom in the 1980s?

        5. Synopsis: A surgeon carries out horrific murders to help him with restoring his fiancee's beauty. What was the film?

        6. Which Hammer film was based on a story by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu?

        7. In which film did a group of four people investigate a haunted house? Hints: There are connections to Planet of the Apes and The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie.

        8. In which film did the character 'Johnny Alucard' play an important role?

This is quite a challenge staffslad. I will be guessing some.. wrong likely.

              1) I will leave for time being

              2) Curse of the Werewolf ? (1961)

              3) No idea. Guess.. Ingrid Pitt.

              4) Ralph Bates?

              5) The Cush was in this. Know just about every scene. Has a one word title. Was it Deranged? No it was Corruption (1968)

              6) Lust For A Vampire?

              7)House Of Haunted horrors (poor)

              8)Dracula?

                  1. Hint: cure for cancer

                  2. No, it was over a decade later than Curse of the Werewolf, and wasn't a Hammer.

                  3. Not Ingrid. Hint: she was also in the infamous Maniac from 1980.

                  4. Yes, it was Ralph, and the sitcom was Dear John.

                  5. Yes, Corruption. See the more explicit European cut if you can.

                  6. You're warm on this one, but not Lust...go back a bit.

                  7. I think you meant Haunted House of Horror, but it isn't that one, and yes it is poor . Hint: based on a Richard Matheson novel.

                  8. It was a Dracula film, but not the 1958 Hammer original. It was quite a bit later but still a Hammer. Hint: groovy, man.

                    1. The Vampire Lovers and Twins of Evil.

                    2. Frankenstein must be Destroyed with the Baron at his most evil.

                    3. Horst Janson. Sad they didn't make a TV series as originally planned.

                    4. His break-out role was as Leon in Curse of the Werewolf, but his first uncredited role was in Value for Money.

                    5. The Witches. Only seen this one once, nearly 4 decades ago.

Here are the answers to the previous quiz

                        1. Island of Terror...Cushing had his hand trapped by one of the Silicates creatures and it was lopped off to prevent him from being killed.

                        2. The Beast must Die...a werewolf who-is-it.

                        3. Caroline Munro...Hammer producers saw her advertising Lamb's Navy Rum on billboards and approached her for a screen test.

                        6. The Vampire Lovers...based on Le Fanu's Carmilla.

                        7. The Legend of Hell House...based on Hell House by Richard Matheson.

                        8. Dracula AD1972...Johnny Alucard resurrects Dracula in an abandoned church in the swinging London of 1972. Caroline Munro is Drac's first victim.

I'll come up with a few more later on.

Ok, here are a few more questions about British horror films of the 60s and 70s.

                          1. Which famous British actress had a tree as a love rival in a 70s anthology film?

                          2. In which Hammer film did Peter Cushing and Joanna Lumley play grandfather and granddaughter?

                          3. In which film did Vincent Price and Ian Hendry engage in a sword fight on trampolines?

                          4. Synopsis: Two eldely people, husband and wife, use a device to control people. They can feel and experience everything that the controlled person feels and experiences. What was the film?

                          5. In which Hammer film did Andrew Keir replace Peter Cushing at short notice after the latter's wife passed away suddenly?

                          6. In the 60s Hywel Bennett and Hayley Mills starred in a very controversial film. What was it?
