Okay, here's a question. In Carry on up the Khyber, what was the name of the British Regiment? The Khazi called them "devils in skirts" but what was their proper title?

It was the 3rd Foot and Mouth. And it is Sir Sidney Rough Diamond.

It seems fashionable today to favour the earlier Carry Ons over the later ones as being the best, but I have to admit that I prefer the ones from the late 60s into the 70s, say from Carry on Doctor onwards. They got more risque, but that was partially down to more relaxed censorship guidelines. The later ones were always superior to the likes of the Confessions and Adventures series in terms of laughs imo, though the Confessions and Adventures films were more explicit--they were all X rated I think.

Forgot to mention that Khyber has the classic "Fakir off!" which was pretty near the knuckle for the time.

Just to clarify, my preference for the later Carry Ons does not extend to the dreadful England, Emmanuelle and Columbus.

                    Re: Let's Carry On.

I like all the Carry Ons, but the later ones aren't a patch on the "golden age" mid 1960s ones.

The earlier Norman Hudis scripted B&W ones are quite good in a "chummy - fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon" way.

I tend to agree with Richard. I too prefer the early 60s ones. They were funnier and did not need to resort so much to cheaps gags.
