Up to & including nowadays the national probation service (now privately contracted out)_ have ran & still run Community Payback
This is a sentence imposed by the court, as an alternative to custody (To imprison ONE person for ONE year costs the taxpayer (UK) £43k per year. Currently the population of the prison estate is 90.000 prisoners. Multiply 43k by 90,000 & what is the total? That is where your tax money goes
Community Payback consists such tasks as painting community centres, ground works in parks & gardens, cooking in lunch clubs for the elderly etc etc
This shows the public naughty boys & girls are doing something to pay back the victim/wider society
