it was developed by nsu. i think the derby is a completely different car. they were only two door as well.
The VW K 70 was fashioned on the Derby or was it the Derby fashioned from the K 70?
Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

The K70 was based on the rotary engined Ro80, but with a conventional engine.
Once the Passat was in production the K70 & Ro80 were phased out.
The Trickster On The Roof
The K70 was developed by NSU which was taken over by VW. By ~1970 VW was beginning to struggle with its ageing range of cars and used the much more modern K70 to plug the gap until the new generation of cars (Polo, Golf, Passat, Scirocco) arrived in the mid-1970s. The Derby was just a saloon version of the Mk1 and Mk2 Polo which was later sold as the Polo Classic and discontinued when the Mk3 arrived in 1990.
I remember the VW K70, not seen one for years, 95% of them rusted away by the mid 80s.
The picture looks very much like the mk2 Ford Escort.
Telling it almost exactly like it was so many years later - and proud of doing so!
