Yes the witty one liners were ok and served to show bond had a sense of humour but that really should have been the extent of the playing for laughs aspect of the films

Yes, the comedy aspect did get broader as Moore's time as Bond progressed. To be fair to Moore, though, I don't think he could have played a Connery-style Bond, but agreed that the comedy went too far and plots too silly--Moonraker, which was so obviously trying to ride the Star Wars popularity wave.

Yes Moonraker was brought forward in order of production to ride the wave of space themed films of the time

        Brooke Bond lol

Do you really believe the other side without provocation would launch so many ICBM's, subs and ships knowing that we would have no option to launch as well? It would break our MAD Treaty (Mutually Assured Destruction) not to mention the end of the world as we know it.

That "Premium Bond" comment above reminded me of that PG Tips advert from the 1970s or 1980s where they did a James Bond spoof with the chimps, and one of them said (voiced by Michael Jayston of course) "the name's Bond - Brooke Bond".

I wonder whether it was played during ad breaks of James Bond films? The irony is that I am certain that Jayston himself had played Bond himself at least once, obviously not in the films but in some other representation of that character.

I think Michael Jayston played 007 in a BBC radio adaption of one of the novels.

Yes, that's right. The fact that he wasn't an actor who played Bond in the Connery or Moore sense at least made me think of whether he did play Bond after all, or whether I was imagining things.

Yes he did, but he did not play saxophone on Gerry Rafferty's Baker Street - that was someone else of course.

He also played secret agent Quiller in the series of that name in 1975 for the BBC.

He was also Peter Guillam in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy, but was unavailable for Smiley's People.

Raf Ravenscroft played the sax solo

The Bob Holness story was invented by Stuart Maconie
