Just to be clear George i love the Beatles and ofcourse Lennon and Mccartney wrote a huge number of original songs but as you can see they recorded a ton of songs by other artists particularly in there earlier years.

I knew that "I Fought the Law" by the Clash was a cover of a Bobby Fuller Four song, but I only recently found out that that version was also a cover, of a Crickets song!

Also, some songs were "covered" before the original artist sang them!

Both Sides, Now - Judy Collins recorded her version before Joni Mitchell did
Heart On MY Sleeve - "Extended Play" by Bryan Ferry featured 4 songs which were supposedly covers but, on the notes on the sleeve, it says he recorded this before Gallagher & Lyle did!
Handbags & Gladrags - Mike D'Abo (of Manfred Mann fame) wrote it but recorded it later, as an album track, after Chris Farlowe

          There are others...

Then Rod Stewart, then the Stereophonics!

"Bette Davis Eyes" was originally by Jackie DeShannon:

Not normally a fan of covers, but I reckon Disturbed absolutely nailed the Sound of Silence:

Nobody can cover an ABBA song.

Hey, even at my tender age I just love ABBA you can't beat, or cover but there have need some decent tribute groups... Considering Benny and Bjorn own the rights to the songs I don't think (please correct me)they have ever sold the rights to the songs for covers.

There have been covers, Erasure did do the Abbaisque EP, & Madonna managed to get permission to sample some of their songs.

I won't even add the wheatus cover of a little respect as I feel it's bad. However, here's Vince and Andy. Classic tune!!!!

I'm a self confessed metal head but i also like to kick back, take a breath and enjoy some easy listening. One of my favourite songs is the Herb alpert cover of This guys in love with you, a hit in 1968 and originally recorded by Dione warwick also 1968 and called This GIRLS in love with you, Burt bacharachs finest hour (imo)
