    Re: Pets

My first pets weren't cats. They were Gerbils, which came into fashion in the early 70's.

Mouse-like creatures mine had babies and ate em' all !

We had a fish called Gerry (Jerry?) that lasted for 20 years. Dutifully cleaned out by my mother every week this fish was a prize at a School Fete and came in a plastic bag.

It just grew and grew. Attempts to give Gerry a companion came to naught. He ate them ! The tank had no filter, either.

      Our Beloved Pets

How precious are our pets? I regard them as being one of the family. I have had many pet dogs over the years. Starting with an Australian Kelpie (sheepdog) we called Tammy after the Debbie Reynolds musical of the same name. Whenever we played the hit song on the radio our Tammy would howl happily. She was a darling.

Then we had a big black all sorts named Prince. He was a gentle giant. So playful with a big booming bark. Later we had a part boxer Mon.. (French name for my). She was a handful.. often chasing neibors and getting up to all sorts of mischief. But at home she was a complete angel. Then came Mollie a Sydney Terrier. She was the cutest little girl with a bubbly personality.

Below are two of our most recent dogs.. Chloe (Golden lab) and Pepsi (Shetland sheepdog). Pepsi endured lameness most of his life due to a accident while a puppy. We lost both of these beloved family members 4 years ago. I still tear up when I see their ashes urns. I also have a chat to them in doggie heaven.

      What about your pets DYRers?

We currenty have two beloved canine family members.. Bubbles (L) is 11 years and is now suffering a heart murmur. But he is a stoic little fellar and hopefully will e with us for several more years as he is taking daily medication. Our latest addition is Bonnie (below). What a cutie but a monster.. she never stops and gives me plenty to do and plenty to enjoy. Both my doggies are of the Spanish Havanese breed.

        Bonnie at 14 weeks.

        Bubbles 11yrs.

Tex we had a budgie Benny for many years. I seem to recall when I was a whippersnapper Mum and Dad had a brite colored cocky. This birdie lived to some 20 years. Cockies have been known to live for many years longer than that. The longer they live the more feathers they lose evidently. I have seen one so old it was bald. No kidding.

Georgous dogs Donald, always wanted one but the wife is not on board. The finches are a constant source of amusement however, they have very different personalities and will happily finger perch for treats.

Yeah i was (unforgivably) watching i'm a celebrity recently and the fear and even repulsion that people seem to have for snakes is unfathomable, i think they are fascinating but i'm afraid the wife doesn't share my enthusiasm

It's funny to watch most of them seemingly terrified of them to a snake keeper

Only the tiny hatchlings are tetchy/ snappy and that's only because they're terrified 24/7 and programmed to expect attacks from above ...
