Sad to hear that. RIP.
sad news indeed r i p bill.
even sadder as its more or less christmas.
FOR THE HONOUR OF GRAYSKULL
I was watching a 1977 episode of Coronation Street online and saw Peter Armitage as a different character - I think he was a decorator who was partly responsible for changing the Rovers wallpaper (remember that circle patterned wallpaper that the Rovers had between 1977 and 1983?), and my first thought was "I didn't know that Bill Webster had appeared in the series as early as this!" Of course, he was a different character - Geoff Hinsliff who was later Don Brennan also appeared at the same time as another character as well.
Bill Podmore wanted Webster Snr to be a Len Fairclough replacement as a builder (not in the same sense of Alan Bradley was of course i.e. an interest for Rita), and didn't want to introduce a new family for number 11. He left in early 1985 and didn't reappear for another ten years, so in a way, the short-lived Clayton family was one reason why they were introduced in order to fill the gap.
I am now in my 40s (just in case anyone asks).
I lived a few houses down from 'Len Fairclough' when I was a youngster ..
Scary thought !!

This is sad news about Peter's passing indeed. Peter as Bill was always likeable on Corrie I felt and I liked the scenes in-particular with Maureen that Peter had, when they dated
For some odd reason I always confused Peter with the man who played the Dad on Johnny Briggs .... who then went on to be Mel's Dad on EastEnders
RIP Peter Armitage
He also played a part in The Sweeney, Jacko in episode Big Spender. He was also in a Yellow Pages advert playing the dad who got his son a racing bike for his birthday. Remember the lines "Like sitting on a razor blade" and "I was right about that saddle though".
