I am certain that the "cheeky monkey" phrase has been used in quite a few adverts over the years - I obviously would not remember the advert that you are referring to, but I am getting a de ja vu feel with regards to that being mentioned in adverts.
I am trying to remember an ITV advert from the late 1970s, I think, in which a family (Northern?) are gathered around the dinner table and the mother exclaims "Ooh, you cheeky monkey!" to her son (or one of her sons?). I think it was an advert for some kind of convenience food. Does anyone remember? I also seem to recall mimicking that line in around 1979 which is why I date it to the late seventies.

I am now in my 40s (just in case anyone asks).
Johnny vegas also used the phrase in the ad campaign for PG tips
ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN IN THE NEXT HALF HOUR.
Yes, I remember that Tex. It was Johnny Vegas who stirred my earlier half-memory of the late 70s advert.
Was it a Birds Eye product? That advert for steak and kidney pies which featured Una Stubbs and Pinocchio in it perhaps?

I think you’re right. It could well have been Birds Eye!
