    Does anyone remember buying little commando cartoon books, each had there own story

    Yes,but only briefly. I found them a little too serious for my tastes, but the War is a serious business I suppose..That has just reminded me!! wow!

      yep i used to have a decent collection of commando books as a kid, DC Thompson recently released a compilation of of some of the best stories if i remember rightly

        Of course I did, where else was I going to learn my amazing German language skills of "gott in himmel" "die englander schweinhund" "achtung achtung spitfire dakka dakka" and "AAAIIIEEEEEEE".

          Still the scant german I learned from the mags did help with chatting up some german birds one summer. Schnelll schenell!!!!!

                I used to get the odd one when we were off on holiday but war comics really weren't my thing either. I'd always go for one of the oversized Marvel Treasury editions as a special holiday comic treat!

                          Yes, you can.

                          There has been a huge resurgence (in the era of 'retro') in interest recently in these comics. And they have re-released the best strips in several smashing Best of books, HB, softback and paperback. I have bought all the new Best of. My dad still owns quite a few old ones from the 60's.

                              I have a couple of the original ones knocking about somewhere, I also have one of the re-released 'Best of' in hard back as well.

                              I'm quite surprised that they have re-released the old ones as they are very stereotypical and i'd have thought the PC brigade would have been up in arms!?
