Interesting how we automatically pronounce ZZ Top as "Zee Zee Top" by habit when we see if written down, even in Great Britain.

Supposedly one DJ announced them as Twenty Two Top after misreading a handwritten playlist.

I always assumed that ZZ Top's name was chosen so that they could be listed last alphabetically in the Guinness Book of Hit Singles (in the same wat that ABBA and later A1 chose their names so that they could be first in the book).

Any programme that has been wiped from the TV archives.

Interesting thought but not true, ABBA = AGNETTA. BENNIE, BJORN, ANNA

I know that ABBA's name comes from the first initials of the group members - I think that they were blessed in a way for that.

Oh, erm ok, but in #79 you stated it was so they could be first alphabetically in the Guinness book of hit singles?

Re: Tv programmes that would not be shown today

In Sweden on the first singles of the foursome (People Need Love, Ring Ring) they are titled:
                    Bjorn & Benny
                    Agnetha & Anni-Frid

So even they didn't think of 'ABBA' at first, they have been filed under BJO. They pronounce Agnetha Ah-nya-tha in case anyone ever needs to. And of course Anni-Frid they just call Frida. She's the less reclusive one that was with Benny. I had a thing for Benny, he was very good looking.

Do they ever show On The Buses anywhere? All the rude comments toward Olive and general Andy Capp type bloke natter...

I wonder if something a bit regional like I Didn't Know You Cared would make sense to some folks? Rising Damp was a Yorkshire series but I can't say it seemed especially regional, Last The Summer Wine often seems very of t'dales when I have watched it... except maybe for where Frank Thornton (r.i.p.) is in it.

Going on Yesterday (or Thurs' Papers) - not that these are the exact words, just me interpreating them and this new ITV/BBC combo effort called BritBox - Fawlty Towers is considered iffy with some off John Cleese phrases as Basil, Del Boy on OFAH is too much of a "Judith Charmers", Bless This house, Love Thy Neighbour and of course In Sickness and In Health/ have all been Red Carded as having not exactly appropriate phrases etc

What next - Keeping Up Apperances "Red Carded" cos Hyacinth is a snob, or The Offfice cos David Brent is like most bosses are at work, when they are on your case or like a lot in general are!!

I believe that the first Guinness Book of Hit Singles was published in 1977.

ITV 3 still showed On the Buses as recently as last year, and the film spin off sometimes get shown on Bank Holidays.

Further to my previous response, the 1979 edition of Guinness Hit Singles would have been the second edition as it was published every two years.

They're still showing it. There's an episode listed for this morning.
