    Re: Football Clubs

I have heard of Royal Arsenal but I have never really heard of the name Arsenal being used as a place name in the same sense as Chelsea or Tottenham is.

Queen of the South is not a place name either - the club's name just refers to "the south".

Port Vale does sound like a place.

                Re: Football Clubs

Notts County is Britain's oldest I think (founded circa 1862), but I think that the world's oldest football club was founded prior to that.

Sheffield FC (it's neither connected Wednesday or Utd in any way) but they are the oldest in the World I believe - though not the oldest in the Leauge as they have never been in it at any point

The 2nd oldest could also be their close City Rivals Hallam I think I have read too

I thought that you were referring to the oldest club which is still in existence, rather than historically..

I still think it'd be Sheffield FC, to be honest George as they are in continual existance as far as I know, but "leauge-wise" since Notts Co's Relegation I have read that Stoke and Nottingham Forest are not disputing the honour. Chesterfield would have been very close too - but as they got Relegated and now share a Division with Notts Co - that eliminates them!
