    Re: Advert memories from 1992

The 1980s Jaffa Cake adverts used to unnerve me. Not so much the Munchkins or Jaffa Cake Man himself, but that Jaffa Cake tree with the face. Sinister. Needs to be chopped down and burned.

    THE HORROR:

Fig rolls are a thing of wonder. One day, back at primary school, we had a 'last day of term' party where we basically played games all day and each of us brought in some sweets, crisps, cake or similar. One kid brought fig rolls and nobody liked them except me and my friend Lee. We devoured the lot between us and I felt sick for the rest of the day.

There's probably a moral in there somewhere.

It's a bit like a Christmas party we had at school - my family got rid of a load of Tracker bars and donated them to the party and everyone wanted one. I just hope that they had not passed their sell by date.

Those parties were often legendary. I had a sikh friend back then, Sandeep. His parents (in keeping with 1980s traditions) owned and ran a newsagents and convenience store in the city. It was in a good location and they did well out of it. One one of those party days, Sandeep was allowed to raid his parents' 'cash and carry' stocks and brought in a load of crisps and Penguin bars. He was a popular boy on that day.

We got a few of those, growing up in inner-city Nottingham.
