    Re: Researching family history

I was referring to Find My Past rather than Ancestry with regards to the previous post, by the way...

      Re: Researching family history

Just had a great email response from the Derbyshire Record Office in Matlock - although they recommended things that I have already done such as join Find My Past and Ancestry, they mostly referred to parish records and all that. I may contact the Nottingham Central Library as well with the same correspondence.

I do know that my great-great-great-grandmother only seemed to be 14 when she married my great-great-great grandfather in 1820, and that is why I might have made a mistake - was the legal age as low as that back then? - especially if one needed to have parental permission if one was under the age of 21?

A bit of an update for you - I have just looked at my latest credit card statement and I can precisely give you the details:

        Find My Past - £12.95

        Ancestry.co.uk - £58.20 (although that is for 12 months I believe).

          Re: Researching family history

Just thought I would let you know that I managed to find out that someone was a second cousin of mine earlier on this week thanks to Find My Past - he was the only one mentioned on a Probate list a few years ago who had the same surname as mine. We have the same great-grandfather, our grandfathers were brothers, and so on...
